This page has been created for online charity donations in memory of our beloved Mam (Catriona, Catherine, Cathy, 'Catriona Ruraraidh a'Dunn'). Thank you to those who have already donated to CJD charities in memory of Mam and to those who have given charity donations to us directly.

Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare and rapid neurological disease which effects the prions in the brain. There are four different types of CJD with the statistics of developing the illness being roughly one in a million.

Mam lost her very short 7 week battle with Sporadic CJD on Thursday 10th September 2020. 

Mam was well known for her hard working nature and kindness towards everyone. For such a happy and active person the diagnosis of such a rare disease came as shock and left the family heartbroken. 

The rarity of the disease also unfortunately meant the diagnosis was difficult and  knowledge in the development/progression rate of the disease was unsure with Neurological Specialists truthfully telling us they had never seen anything like it before.

With only very few doctors/nurses having first hand experience of patients with CJD the CJD Support Network Charity this JustGiving page is donating to became a fundamental part of Mams care. 

The CJD Support Network charity has over 20 years experience of working with people with CJD. They are knowledgeable about the illness and offer their support to both the family and the health care professionals who care with anyone with CJD. They work closely with the rare diseases research  unit at University of Edinburgh who helped with Mams diagnosis and reached out us directly. Due to covid-19 they could only reach out through telephone conversation but they offered 24 hours support.

With an illness which was so rare and unpredictable the ability to have support for both us the family and the health professionals working with Mam a phone call away provided reassurance and gave us all confidence Mam was getting the best care. As a family we thank the CJD support network Charity for all their emotioanal and practical support. We also thank the amazing team in the hospital who treated Mam with great affection whilst caring for her. 

Mam was so special to us all. We thank everyone for their kindness over the past couple of months. Mam believed in helping others and often donated to different charities. We really appreciate any donation given to the CJD Support Network charity which helped Mam and hope that they can continue to offer the same level of help and support  to any other families effected by CJD.
