SMART (St. Mary Abbots Rehabilitation and Training) provides training, employment support and purposeful activities for people with mental ill health.

Story

I've always told myself I'm not a runner, yet completing a Marathon has been on the bucket list for years.

And not being one for long distance running, I've opted to train using what many people feel is an unorthadox approach. It'll involve training principles taken from Tim Ferris's 4 Hour Body book. This approach uses shorter training distances and more strength work. Plus following the Bulletproof Diet book which focuses on the least inflammatory foods.

I have the opportunity to run for a great charity called SMART based in London. They help people recover from serious mental illness, get back to living a better life and to re-integrate into the community.

They've got a thriving set up based around a very communal cafe where everyone comes to talk, rest and recover.  There's all sorts going on there from yoga and mindfulness sessions, gardening and flower arranging, music sessions, life skills courses. You name it.  It's really buzzing with life down there and I think there needs to be more places like SMART. They really serve as a bridge for people to get back to leading a more normal live.
