Co-operation Ireland - Belfast to Dublin Bike Ride · 26 June 2010 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Update: I've made it! It was a very tough ride - the hills between Drogheda and Dublin were particularly painful but it was great fun and I fully enjoyed it. I would highly recommend it to anyone next year. A big thank you to everyone who has sponsored me, I'm absolutely thrilled with the amount we have raised so far. The page will still be accepting donations for the next few weeks so now is the chance for anyone who wanted to wait and see if I actually completed the trip to chip in!! :)

Thanks again everyone.

I've rather foolishly decided to take part in the Belfast-Dublin Maracycle, a 214 mile (344km) round-trip over 2 days. In exchange for my pain, I'm hoping to raise some money for the Stroke Association in Northern Ireland. They perform a very valuable service and fully deserve our support. Here's  a little more about the work they do:

What is it like to lose your language - the medium that most of us effortlessly use to work, play, love, learn and relate to others?  There are about 10 000 people in Northern Ireland who live with this daily, having lost their ability to use language due to a stroke.  Aphasia can make it impossible to talk about your day, read a newspaper, write an email, share a joke, or any of the thousands of things we do that require normal language processing.  The Stroke Association in Northern Ireland is dedicated to helping people with aphasia and their families, giving support, advice, training and the opportunity to rebuild confidence in communication.  Please help them to continue!
