London Marathon 2021

London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
Running a marathon and fundraising for World Child Cancer was a project I started back in 2019. Along the way, I've faced more setbacks than I'd first anticipated. Some were rather predictable; finding the time to train consistently and coping with injuries. Others were less easy to see coming; the postponement and then cancellation of the 2020 race due to COVID-19. However, my place has been rolled over to 2021 and I am as keen as ever to keep fundraising.
I don't think it's an understatement to say that everyone alive today knows someone who has been affected by cancer. The thought of a child experiencing such a devastating illness without the means to receive adequate support, when effective treatment often exists, is harrowing.
Who are World Child Cancer?
World Child Cancer's mission is to support children with cancer in developing countries. Their belief is that every child with cancer, wherever they live in the world, should have equal access to the best possible treatment and care.
Over 300,000 children worldwide develop cancer each year. If the illness is detected early enough, many of these children can be cured - as many as 80% of children with cancer in the developed world survive. However, in developing countries, survival rates can be as low as 10%. In addition, many children are dying without effective pain relief.
£10 could pay for a week’s worth of pain relief medication for four children in Malawi
£25 could fund accurate diagnosis for 10 children in Bangladesh
£50 could pay for life-saving chemotherapy for one child in Ghana
£150 could pay for a play worker in Myanmar for six months
£500 could fund the treatment of a child with Burkitt's lymphoma in Malawi
A donation of any size will have a concrete impact on a vulnerable child's life and would be greatly appreciated!
