Story

It is with great sadness that AIMS announces the passing of our former trustee and dear friend Mark Rye.

Mark's wife Olivia has asked us to set up a fundraising page with all donations to be made direct to AIMS.

"28 December 2016, Mark called his second birthday. It was the day they reintroduced his stem cells as part of the HSCT process. Mark had received various different treatment for MS for many years and never imagined that the opportunity for stem cell replacement therapy would be available in his lifetime. Due to this being such a new treatment to halt the progression of MS, there wasn’t much information available to research. The amount of courage required by Mark to go through this relatively new process is true testament to the man he was.

Mark was more than happy to share his journey with anyone. He set up a blog himself
(https://markrye.wixsite.com/my-stem-cell-journey) and offered support to many families who took the same journey as him. They would get in touch having seen his blog and he would go through the journey with them and their loved ones. Some weren’t successful which was always difficult and he never took for granted how lucky he was. If Mark could find a way to help other people or give them a bit of hope and comfort from his own experience, he would jump at the opportunity. He felt privileged to become a trustee of AIMS for a short time. He knew from his own experience how much their input and support for families going through this journey was required and would be appreciated. Mark cared, people mattered to him and he would be bowled-over to know any donations can go towards supporting others in his memory".
