Story

What have I let myself in for??

A bike ride from John O' Groats to Lands End in June 2010.

What's it for?

I have decided to support Balfour Beatty’s Building Better Futures Trust which is a charitable partnership, supporting projects that will help raise the aspirations, motivation and quality of life amongst young people suffering from disadvantage.

I have secured match funding from Balfour Beatty, so that along with ‘Gift Aid’, every £10 donated will become about £22 for the charity.   I hope to secure at least £2,000 in pledges - all money donated will go straight to the charity.

How did I get involved?

The trip has been organised by a good friend of mine (Mark Armond) who had originally planned to do it solo, with a number of friends joining him along the way for different sections of the route. At first I was just going to join for a week in the Scottish Highlands, but a recent change in my circumstances means that I'm now free to do the whole thing and have, somewhat rashly, decided to do so. The route we're taking will cover approximately 1,200 miles over 25 days and we start on the 31st May. As I type, the date is the 18th of May and my training thus far has consisted of a 25 mile bike ride, 2 games of cricket, a round of golf and some heaving digging in the garden, so the next 10 days or so are crucial (even for a natural athlete like me)!

Those of you who know me well, will know that I have spent more time than most worrying what to do with my own future, but at least I have had the luxury of choice, as have most of us. This is a great opportunity to help children who without charities like this one to support them, wouldn't get a choice.

I am going to need all the encouragement, support and of course MONEY that you can give, folks. Any donations, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.

I will try wherever possible to update this page along the way, with photos etc.
