The Balfour Beatty Charitable Trust was formed for the Group's centenary year. It funds projects which raise the aspiration, motivation and quality of life amongst young people suffering from disadvantage.

Story

In June 2010, I will be cycling the 1200 miles (approx) from John O Groats to Land’s End.  Not so much a “mid life crisis” more an adventure of a lifetime!   Originally planned as a solo event, I now fortunately have promises (you know who you are) of company along the way - various family members, colleagues and friends will be joining me; indeed Mark Sterling is “going the whole way”.  So far, other committed riders are Darren Self (John O Groats to Glasgow), Paul Harley (Inverness to Glasgow), Andy Nettleton (Carlisle to Ashbourne), Martin Godley (Dent to Ashbourne),  Ireneusz Kryczka "Irek" (Nelson to Ashbourne), Rory Mitchell (Dunsford Bridge to Ashbourne), Ed Gardiner (a day ride through Birmingham), Barry Wilcock (Wells to Land’s End) and Tom Armond (Bristol to Redruth).  Watch this space for more details – if you would like to join in, please contact me (07966-337573).

It seemed like a great opportunity to raise money for a good cause and I have decided to support Balfour Beatty’s Building Better Futures Trust which is a charitable partnership, supporting projects that will help raise the aspirations, motivation and quality of life amongst young people suffering from disadvantage.  I have secured match funding from Balfour Beatty, so that along with ‘Gift Aid’, every £10 donated will become about £22 for the charity.  Along with help from other cyclists I hope to secure £3,000 in pledges - all money donated will go straight to the charity.

Thank you in anticipation of your support.
