Story

Thanks for supporting my fundraising. Macmillan Cancer Support is here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support.

They have supported my friends, relatives, my friends own relatives, colleagues and many many others - without them I know that the many battles fought would be even tougher than they already are.

With 2020s ride being cancelled I’ve got all things crossed for 2021 being a big year, we all know the charities are in desperate need for funds. So I hope those who can please donate what you can, those who can’t just a  message of support will go a long long way!

So whatever cancer throws your way, they’re right there with you.

So I decided to ride the length of the UK again! This time though I thought i'd make it a little bit tougher - either i'm daft or just plain stupid - and am riding my late Uncle Stephens 1977 bike. I'm so proud to be able to do the ride in this way and know it's going to be a real challenge. Stephen lost his battle with cancer back in 1983 aged just 27 after living and fighting for 6 years. He loved his bike and rode it plenty before losing the fight. Macmillan weren't around at the time but I know if they had been they would have been there for him, just like they were when my very close friend Krissy was diagnosed just a few years back. Krissy was a warrior, and her hubby Mark was there to help her fight the tough fight, but Macmillan helped them both right until the very end. They really are amazing in what they do and how they provide support to each and every person who calls upon them.

So you're probably wondering why ride a 1977 bike - well apart from the pride I will have each pedal stroke I make, my dad rode the bike on the same route after it had a major overhaul in 2013, so there's also a little competitiveness in my challenge!! Dad rode with mum in 13 days, supported by me and their caravan hopping ahead of them each day! So I figured I'd go for it in 9 days supported by the great Team Threshold and Deloitte just as I did in 2016. This time though its completely self funded with even bigger targets to hit. Which is where you, the reader and my great family, friends and colleagues come into play!!

RIDE COMPLETED UPDATE: So I did it! Riding over 970 miles and the equivalent of climbing Everest twice!! Thank you to everyone for their support and their donations along the way, its really appreciated!
