Abbi has a very rare muscle wasting disease called Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy. This is a genetic disease and affects only 1 in every 1 million babies born. One of the genes coded for Collagen VI (the glue that holds muscle fibres together) is misprinted and this causes many problems.
There is no cure (at present!) so for this reason I have made the crazy decision to run 10km through the wild! An off-road run including lake swims, mud pits, trees, bogs, ditches, hills and dense foliage mean that at the end (if I make it of course!) I'll be flippin knackered!
So, to help motivate me to get ready in 6 weeks and then run this crazy course, can you help me by helping Abbi! Please give, even something small as a quid! As I aim to reach £1000 in 6 weeks.
People who have Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy generally will present a delay in the onset of walking, some never walk at all. Abbi can walk, she can not run or jump and she struggles to get up from a seated position. She is a part time wheel chair user and may become a full time wheelchair user through her teen years and develop respiratory problems as the muscles around her lungs find it more difficult to cope. All of that said, she is an intelligent and very determined little girl, who sees the best in life and in people, and copes with her condition in a way that is constantly commended by her peers and family alike. My kids love her as do we! Please give and pray for her!
