Wave 105 Cash for Kids launched in 2009 has raised over £1/2 m (half a million) for disadvantaged children in the region to date.
Wave 105 and Wave 105 Cash for Kids are suporting Teenage Cancer Trust during May to support fundraising for their new 10 bed specialist cancer unit in Southampton which will provide support children from across the region.
I am launching my fundraising efforts to coincide with this and have agreed with Gloria Hill, Wave 105 Cash for Kids Chairty Manager, a chairty of which i am a trustee, that my fundraising efforts from my upcoming expedition will be donated to both Teenage Cancer Trust and Brainstrust.
Teenage Cancer Trust are a high profile and very imporant charity and the new unit at Southampton General will provide essential support to local children undergoing treatment for cancer
Brainstrust is a lesser known IOW charity. What is even less widely known is that Brain Tumours are the biggest killer of under 18's and this chairty provides invaluable support to children and families across our region from that traumatic moment of diagnosis throughout the treatment period and beyond
As part of our fund raising activities, i will be representing the charity and joining Rhys Jones, a patron of Cash for Kids and accomplished local mountaineer, Steven Snow and Neil McCue from Snows Motor Group who are also supporting TCT in May and a group of Wave 105 listeners to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africas hightest mountain at 19,341 ft
We aim to complete this challenging 8 day trek taking the remote Lemosho Glades route taking in the desolate Shira Plateau, the windswept Lava Tower, the strangely named Branco Wall and the freezing Barafu camp before reaching the summit around dawn on Satruday 3rd September.
For those of you who know me, you will understand the motivation and for everyone reading this, you have to know that this climb will pose a significant challenge to me but i am determined to complete it and i ask that you please help me raise funds for these charities that carry out such important work in our communities
We should never take our health for granted and those of us blessed with some influence should use it to support charties that provide essential guidance and support for those less fortunate in society as we never know what life has in store for us
As Tesco say - "every little helps" so please give what you can if you can
Thank you for reading my page and for your kind support
