Story
After doing my first London to Brighton bike ride last year I'm now challenging myself further with a more daunting attempt this year. With a 6am start on the cards and much less bike traffic to hold me up, I'm planning to cycle the route without stopping, all 54 miles of pain. Then after a bite to eat, etc on the Brighton seafront (maybe fish and chips..., no thats not healthy enough), I'm going to jump back on the bike and cycle all the way back to London!!
So 108 miles, give or take a few wrong turns or detours. An estimated 9-11 hours in the saddle (ouch, I feel it now!!), and with enough pain killers to hide my aching knees, I hope to get back to Clapham Common by around 5pm. Hopefully there will be cheering crowds of people, but expect only a handful of random pedestrians seeing yet another cyclist on the London roads.
Date for the ride is the 19th June 2011
I'm doing this for the British Heart Foundation, in what is their biggest year since they were founded 50 years ago. The BHF is trying to raise a mighty 50 million pounds as part of its Mending Broken Hearts campaign, which (in a nut shell) is to fund the research to allow the heart to mend itself after a heart attack. The heart is the only muscle in your body which doesn't heal itself, so if you are unfortunate to suffer heart problems, currently your remaining life is likely to be forever affected. This research aims to remedy that, allowing everyone to live a normal life again after suffering heart problems.
More details can be found on the BHF website, and in particular about Mending Broken Hearts at the following link:
