Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

The Wall Run is a simple concept - a foot race alongside Hadrian's Wall from Carlisle Castle to The Millenium Bridge in Gateshead, Newcastle. It's a total distance of 111km (69 miles) over two days. A 51km (32 mile) run on day one, followed by a further 60km (37 mile) run on day two.

I have been running for many years but never more than marathon distance. This is a completely different challenge and will involve running right across the country, with a pack, in two days. Training has been demanding with some 1,200km (750 miles) run this year, including a couple of marathons and two 80km (50 mile) weekends! The run will be tough and it will be painful, but the pain is only temporary and it is self-imposed....

As part of Standard Life Investments' support of Marie Curie this year I thought that I'd make this my first ever sponsored run, in the hope that some people may be kind enough to support this great cause. Marie Curie do some fantastic work supporting people with terminal cancer and their families. For them the pain is neither temporary nor self-imposed!

23rd June

Made it frm Carlise Castle to The Millenium Bridge in Newcastle in 12 hours, 1 minute and 48 seconds. Amazingly I came in 11th overall, including teams, (7th individual) out of 290 starters in the 2 day event. Not quite sure how that happened as the aim was simply to finish, but the training seems to have worked! A million thanks for all the generous support for Marie Curie.
