We fight cancer to support people and their families.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you know now, my 14 year old Son lost his Father to pancreatic cancer on 21st April 2016.

His Father was 39 years of age and died within 6 weeks of diagnosis. Whilst we were no longer in a relationship, we were good friends who shared a child together. The loss to both of us has been immense in many different ways.

Two months later I lost my Grandma to cancer of the bile duct. In the previous two years I was with a close family friend when she took her last breath and died of cancer and shortly after that, we buried my Grandfather and the young Son of a family friend. Both of which died suddenly and unexpectedly. My grief has lived with me for over 4 years now. Its been a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Since 2016 until recently, my Son and I have been raising money for both Team Verrico and Pancreatic Cancer Action UK.

Local cancer charity Team Verrico provided my Son and I with free, ongoing bereavement counselling and support up until February 2017. We are extremely grateful for that tremendous support and I doubt we would have got quite as much through our own GP.

Raising money for Pancreatic Cancer Action UK was my wanting to give back something that will help others in a similar situation to what my Sons Father was in.

Raising money for both causes has seen us walking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks twice within six months, selling copious amounts of cakes, standing in my local GP surgery raising awareness about pancreatic cancer and an online raffle supported by Claireabella designs who generously provided a prize of £150 worth of personalised goods to the lucky winner.

In total we raised £1057.91 for Pancreatic Cancer Action Uk and our fundraising continues for Team Verrico.

For those that know me well, will know I do not easily give in and I am one determined woman! In July 2016 I started running at my local Park Run to help me cope with bereavement. My enthusiasm and love for running has grown from there. on 2nd January 2017 I went for my first run with the West Hull Ladies running club and have remained with them ever since. What an inspiring, empowering group of amazing women!

Since then I've ran 9 marathons and a fair few 5ks, 10ks, 10 miles and half marathons. My medal collection is pretty awesome. But now I want something more.

I've more marathons planned for 2020 and i completed the Great North swim (a mile of Lake Windermere) on 9th June 2019 as my goal to start training towards a sprint tri.

I'm sure I'll find more to add to the list!!!!

Thank you for reading and if you can spare a quid or two, it would be greatly appreciated.
