In 2020 I was due to run the London Marathon one more time. Then Covid arrived and everything changed. I ended up running the virtual London Marathon, around where I live with lots of help and support from my lovely family and friends, raising much needed funds for Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer.

Since then, I have deferred my place due to illness or injury.

I fell in love with running almost 10 years ago, and my love for it is still strong. I love the peace and head space running gives me, and it has always been beneficial in helping to keep my asthma and COPD under control.

The last 12 months have been hard on my running with Covid and numerous chest infections, and many injuries taking their toll on my legs.

At the start of this year, I wasn’t sure this would be possible and this time the challenge will be tougher than ever before.

Next month on Sunday 23rd April, I will be running the London Marathon once more! This REALLY is the last time though! I don’t think my legs and lungs can take many more marathons!

I am pleased to say I will be running for Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer once more, as it is a charity that is very close to my heart. My beautiful Auntie Pam has suffered from this awful disease and I am pleased to say she is doing so well now, and my wonderful friend Dee continues to fight so courageously.

Cancer does not discriminate or care who it hurts. Unfortunately we all know or will know someone in our lifetime, male or female who will suffer from breast cancer.

Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer is a Birmingham based charity. They provide critical community care to over 500 women and men every year, and have raised over £1.5 million for the QE hospital trust over the past 2 decades.

I know this is a difficult time for everyone with the cost of living crisis,  but these charities also need our support, and are reliant on our donations.

So, I am asking for your support one last time as I take on this challenge of 26.2 miles on Sunday 23rd April. Any donations would be greatly appreciated and will really help the charity, and me get through the next few weeks of big runs and then the marathon itself. I will of course keep you posted on how I’m doing, 2 more long runs to go! Thank you for any support you can offer, much love Martine 🙏🏃🏼‍♀️❤️
