REACH is the leading charity providing support and information to parents and their children affected by upper limb difference. We have a dedicated network of volunteer branch coordinators spread across 19 areas of the UK and Ireland. The charity relies totally on fundraising to survive.

Story

"Count your blessings, not your troubles."

Last weekend Stanley had a freak accident in the park and managed to amputate part of his left index finger. Whilst the prognosis is good that his life and activities can continue as normal, as you can imagine it has been a tough time. Stanley has been a hero, taken it all in his stride and we have decided to try to make something good come out of it. Together we are going to complete a three legged 5k on the 12th December to help raise funds for Reach. As well as the information below, Reach also organise a residential Reach Activity week. Running for over 40 years RAW has enabled children and young adults aged 10 to 18 the opportunity to get together and take part in exciting activities, taking risks, building confidence, and making lifelong friendships. As Stanley missed out on his residential due to COVID, he liked the idea of helping another child to attend theirs.

Each year babies are born in the UK missing part of one or botharms and hands. This is not drug induced, like thalidomide, but for a variety of congenital reasons and each year families – parents, siblings, and grandparents - are shattered by the knowledge that their child is different and will never be totally two handed.

Since 1978, Reach has provided families with the opportunity to get together, share experiences and information on what to do (or not to do) and where to go for information regarding treatment for the many types of differences – ranging from artificial limbs, appliances or necessary surgery.

We need funding to ensure we can continue to offer support to members and health professionals who are involved with these families. We also ensure that Reach has a political voice through our membership of the Parliamentary Limb Loss Group.
