Hi there everyone, as many of you will be aware on 15/02/2017 my wife and I welcomed Mason Jay Nastor into the World.
Mason was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Our world as a family began with the most turbulent year of our lives filled with evey emotion you can imagine.
Mason was an inpatient at the Brompton Hospital for the first 7 WHOLE MONTHS of his life. He had two open heart surgeries and 2 cardiac cathetherizations whilst in hospital. The first surgery was called the Norwood procedure and our boy was in theatre for 13hrs. The second surgery was called the Glenn procedure. The surgeon, Guido Michielon, and his team worked effortlessly to give Mason the chance at life that he has today.
Mason spent 7 weeks in PICU (Intensive Care) recovering from the Norwood followed by 4months in the ward growing for his second surgery. In contrast to this he was discharged just TWO weeks after his Glenn. Mason has grown into a handsome young boy with a beautiful personality. He makes us laugh every day and is our daily reminder that life is a precious gift and to appreciate every memory! We love him!
The work that the staff at Brompton do is far from routine. To the outside World, this ‘hospital’ is filled with Doctors, Nurses, wider medical team, admin team. However the staff in this hospital are the most passionate group of people I have ever met. They helped me and my wife through the challenging days when it was hard for us to see the positives.
The nurses worked effortlessly to nurse Mason back to health for him to be bring life and soul into our lives every minute of each day. He is truly our Super Hero. The Brompton Fountain led by Trudy Nickels supports parents with accomodation, food and all of the other support that we need during this journey.
To everyone at the Brompton, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Keep up the fantastic work!
