Story

I am running for Cancer Research – In Memory of My Bajaan

I often wonder—if my father (my Bajaan) were still here, what we would talk about, what debates we would dive into. He had an endless curiosity about everything in the world and a boundless enthusiasm to hear what I thought.

Even now, in my mind, I take him along on coastal walks, to new places, and I know he would always agree to join me—bag on shoulder, ready to explore. He was a man far ahead of his time. If only I had been given a little more time with him.

Bajaan taught me that learning never stops—that age is never a barrier to curiosity, knowledge, or growth. He never stopped learning, never stopped encouraging. I can almost hear him cheering me on at the finish line of every run, no matter how slow I go.

Sadly, cancer took him away. It took my dear friend Sumi Apa three years ago. And just this month, a colleague’s wife. Cancer diagnosis remains too costly and too slow for many, and treatment is still out of reach for countless people.

That’s why I’ll be running the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise funds for Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd cancer research. Although training has had its ups and downs, I’m keeping my courage strong. Your encouragement will give me strength.

For Bajaan. For Sumi Apa. For all those we’ve lost—and those still fighting.
