We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Friends, recently a friend and colleague Lee Barnett was diagnosed with testicular cancer. At 21 years old and a keen footballer what hit home to me was how unprejudiced this illness was, whether young, old, fat or thin it makes no difference. At some stage I believe Cancer will make an impact in some way in all our lives.

So.......In early spring 2015 myself and Darren (Lee's dad) are now being joined by a supporting cast of fellow MAMILS (Paul & Wayne Drewery, Paul Blanchflower, Martin Lambert, Paul Corney, Pete Goodman) are planning to cycle the Norfolk coast. This in itself is a masiive task as our journey will exceed 240 miles of windy coastal roads. I hope you'll agree a massive effort for a group of aging chaps. We will also be joined by Neil Clarke and John Powell who will drive support vehicles and offer roadside assistance.

Here's the story so far from Lee's mum...........

You often expect a call from your 21 year old son while you are on holiday saying mum I've wrecked the car or something. What you never expect is a call saying " Just thought you outta know, nothing to worry about but I've been to the doctors today because I found a lump".

That's when it started?

Lee was sent for an ultrasound scan where they said the lump wasn't consistent of that of a cyst.

We started to worry.

Lee went to see the consultant who informed him that he had a tumour in his testicle and it would have to be removed urgently. The operation was the following week, we went to collect him from the day surgery after the operation and he looked terrible.

A few days later he was called in for a CT scan, more bad news quickly followed. The cancer had spread to his abdomen and to his lungs. Intensive Chemotherapy would be needed asap.

That is the stage we are now, Lee is still receiving his course of Chemo. His hair has gone so he looks like his dad but, for Lee his will grow back!!

We are so proud of Lee for having the courage to go to the doctors in the first place. Who knows what would have been if he hadn't.

The journey we know will be long but Lee is young, fit and strong and with good friends and family to support him on his road to recovery.

Please help me as friends to support this super charity and their ongoing work. I have set a achievable target and would really hope with all your support no matter how great or small we can far exceed my target.
