12th November 2015 was the day Flynn (our son) at the young age of 2 was diagnosed with Type1 Diabetes.
Diagnosis day is a day our family will never forget.
We spent four intense days / nights at Doncaster Royal Infirmary where we received our crash course in diabetes and learned how to keep our son healthy and alive.
Giving Flynn numerous daily insulin injections, blood sugar tests and carbohydrate counting every meal was not how we imagined to be raising our fantastic son.
It was frightening, emotional and tiring with many sleepless nights having to check blood sugars, treating hypos (low blood sugar).
We had to find and educate a new childcare provider that would take on Type1 and more recently school nursery.
The things we once took for granted, like Flynn attending a birthday party became and still are problems and obstacles to manage.
We will never conquer the emotions, tiredness and stress associated with Type1 but have to accept this now as part of our life.
Despite this we will not let Type1 stop Flynn from pursuing his dreams and goals.
Flynn is now four years old, he plays football (mini kicks) and swims. He is very active and loves riding his bike and scooter.
Staying on the cycling theme, Team Novo Nordisk are a professional cycling team competing in major professional races around the world. All the riders have Type1 Diabetes. They are an inspiration to Flynn, showing him that Type1 should not stop you achieving what you want to in life. Flynn often watches the team race and says 'I want to be like them Daddy'.
They are truly amazing and I am grateful for their support.
I now public speak to organisations / clubs / NHS professionals to raise the awareness of Type1 Diabetes. I talk about our story as a family; living and learning to manage Type1. My talks are from the heart with a true insight in to our life.
So . . . . thanks very much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and read my (family) story.
