Nearly 10 years ago I suffered a devastating head injury after i was accidentally shot in the back of the head at point blank range with a high powered rifle while working on a farm in New Zealand. Since then my recovery has been ongoing and will continue to be for many years to come.

Initially no one expected me to survive, let alone make any sort of recovery. In the early days all doctors seemed to want to do was to lower my expectations as to what sort of recovery to expect and what might one day be possible. However I was having none of it and nor were my parents. My recovery has involved my whole family, many friends as well as countless dedicated health care professionals.

With the ten year anniversary of my accident later this year I want to celebrate all that has been achieved by undertaking a challenge, while at the same time raising money for people who, like me, have suffered life changing injuries. 

The Help for Heroes Big Battlefield Bike Ride presents a perfect opportunity for me to do this.  However, as I am not able to cycle alone I will be cycling with my father on a specialy adapted tandem bike. It will be an extremely tough challenge for both of us as we will be attempting to cycle 350 miles over five days. My father and myself will working as a team, training together several times a week between now and September and also helping and encouraging each other to complete this challenge.
