Story

The Sick Children’s Trust’s Crawford House was there for my family in 2013 when they needed somewhere to stay while my nephew (Ashton) had surgery to remove a benign brain tumour at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle, almost three hours away from home.

Luckily staff on Ashton’s ward told my sister (Charlotte), my brother in law (Phil) and my mum (Diane) about The Sick Children’s Trust’s Crawford House, a ‘Home from Home’ on the hospital site where families of sick children could stay while they were in hospital. The house was amazing and had all the facilities they needed to make them feel at home. It meant they could all get a good night’s sleep away from the busy hospital ward. My mum was able to cook meals and do all their laundry too. Crawford House was especially important for Charlotte to have time to relax as she was pregnant with my niece (Sienna) so needed plenty of rest.

Ashton stayed in hospital for eight days recovering from his operation before they were able to take him home. We were all so relieved and knew that he would have follow up appointments but three months later he was admitted back into the RVI for a second bout of surgery, Charlotte and Phil were again welcomed back in to Crawford House.

Not only did Phil and Charlotte benefit from this fantastic charity, in 2009 Phil's brother (Stuart) and his wife (Lauren) spent 6 weeks there while their son (Rhys) was having treatment.

We are all so grateful to The Sick Children’s Trust for all of the support they have given our families when we needed it most and will always value the work that they do. Now it's time to give a little back, so I will be doing a solo skydive and I would really appreciate you help in reaching my goal of £500.
