Walking for Access to Justice · 10 June 2014

The Free Representation Unit (FRU) is a charity dedicated to providing free legal representation to those who cannot afford to pay, before Tribunals in the Greater London area where legal-aid is unavailable. Founded in 1972, FRU is one of the country's foremost providers of free legal service.

Story

From June 10th to September 1st, I will be walking across Britain from Lands End to John O' Groats. The walk will be just over 1100 miles, and I have decided to raise money for the Free Representation Unit as part of my journey.

FRU provides an invaluable service for clients who cannot afford access to legal representation in the Employment and Social Security Tribunals, as well as for hundreds of legal students seeking advocacy experience each year. It is particularly close to my heart as I have not only represented clients through FRU, but am now a member of its Management Committee.

I am asking that people give what they can - but if you are looking for a specific number, 1p a mile has a nice ring to it. £11 will not only help to motivate me when the blisters get sore and the weather gets horrible - but will also keep FRU going at a time of legal aid cuts and lack of access to justice. I really appreciate it - thanks!
