London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So, back on the 19th March 2017, I thought that I was a runner. I lined up with the crowds at the Reading Half Marathon, and thought “I can do this!”
…… As I crossed the finish line 1 hour and 49 minutes later, I decided running was definitely not for me. My feet felt like they were on fire, bleeding even, and my legs felt like rusty pogo sticks! That was it, running was deleted from my life. I AM NOT A RUNNER!!!
Fast forward to January 2019 and I have dug my trainers out and decided that this year, I am going to do the other half...the second lap. .....YES, I am taking on my biggest challenge. The 26.2 miles which is the London Marathon but this time with reason and cause.
I’ve deleted Domino’s pizza from my speed dial, I have given up the real ale (well cut down!) and Tony from Chef King (the local Chinese) is now calling me asking where I am!!!
The motivation for this challenge is to raise money for a fantastic, local charity, Helen & Douglas House.
Helen & Douglas House are there to help local families cope with the challenges of looking after a terminally ill baby or child. They assist families to make the most of their time together and help create lasting memories during their child’s short life. It costs £3,000,000 a year to run the hospice, with only 15% from government funding. The other 85% is needed from donations and fundraising.
It is for this reason that I have decided to give my time to training for the London Marathon. I have two children, Jessica and Henry who are my absolute world. They are my motivation for the early morning runs when it’s pouring with rain and blowing a gale! I’ve pledged to raise £2,500 which will make a world of difference to the babies, children & young adults that are cared for at Helen and Douglas House. This amount will cover the whole medical team for 60 hours, ensuring that multiple families benefit from the expertise and care which Helen & Douglas House has to offer.
Lastly...if you got this far! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my Just Giving page. If you feel that this is a charity you would like to support, any amount that you can would be massively appreciated! And if you know of anybody that would also like to support this cause please forward my page on to them!
Big Big Thank You!!!!!!
