Story
Ever since I was young, I have always loved animals.
So, when thinking about what charity I could support for my Bar Mitzvah, I chose StreetVet (www.streetvet.co.uk).
Life on the streets makes it difficult for homeless people to get the basic vet care to ensure the health and happiness their dogs deserve. StreetVet’s aim is to ensure nobody must choose between their pet and a roof over their heads. Barely any hostels for the homeless allow them to stay the night with their dogs. StreetVet have developed a Hostel Accreditation Scheme to offer training and support, allowing them to have positive pet policies and provide hostels with the confidence and can begin accepting homeless people with pets.
Four years ago, we were lucky enough to get our very own family dog Crunchie - if I was homeless and had to choose between giving up Crunchie for a place in a hostel it would be an easy decision and I'd remain on the streets with my dog. This shouldn't be a decision anyone should have to make. All hostels should be able to take people into safety WITH their dogs.
Once Crunchie is back fighting fit from her operation in a few weeks time, she an I will be walking 5km to raise money for StreetVet. In the meantime, on SUNDAY JULY 4th between 2-4pm outside our house I will be selling handmade dog toys and delicious doggie biscuits.
Please sponsor my walk and come along for a doggie treat to help me raise the £1000 - the cost of getting a homeless hostel dog ready.
All that's left to say is a massive THANKS and WALKIES!
