On Sunday 20th October I am running in my first marathon 26.2 miles - which is also the first York marathon. This will be both physically and emotionally a huge challenge for me.

In an attempt to spur me on, I have decided to raise some money for Oesophageal Cancer through the Cancer Research Charity. Sadly we lost our Mum to oesophageal cancer in December 2012. She was diagnosed in January 2012 and received palliative treatment due to her tumour being inoperable.

Oesophageal cancer is now the 4th largest killer in the UK and causes 4,000 deaths each year. There is at present little dedicated research into the cause of oesphageal cancer or ways in which earlier diagnosis can be made.

The donations from this page, including gift aid, will be used to support Cancer Research UK's Oesophageal Research.

Sadly Mum and Dad are no longer with us but I know they will be proud of my marathon attempt and will be uppermost in my thoughts during the marathon, inspiring me to reach my goal.
