London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April 2019 I'm running the London Marathon in memory of my husband Philip.
On 23rd April 2015 our world as we knew it fell apart. This is the day my brave husband finally lost his battle with brain cancer 💔. This is the day I became a widow, my children lost their beloved daddy and i became both their mum and dad.
Philip was always fit and healthy and was never sick. At the age of 24 he started taking seizures which is where our nightmare started. After scans identified a brain tumour Philip's battle began. Soon after diagnosis followed surgery to remove as much tumour as possible which was a success with approx 85% removal. Life returned to normal for us and we soon became a family of 3 when our son was born.
6 months after our sons birth we heard the dreaded words from the doctor "regrowth!". We thought after surgery that our ordeal was over but how wrong were we. Radiotherapy started followed by monthly scans which showed stability.
Again life went on as normal for us and we got married and had our daughter. Our family was complete and we were on cloud 9, but this was short lived.
5 years after radiothearpery and 6 months after the birth of our daughter "regrowth" was again detected! The next course of action was identified and chemotheapery started when our daughter was 9 months old!
The next year consisted of visits up and down to hospital for chemotheapery and never once did Philip complain. Philip had always battled through his previous prognosis and never for 1 second did we think this time would be any different!
After being admitted into hospital for excruitiating headaches a further scan was done and we were told that chemotheapery was no longer working. Philip's tumour was now no longer treatable there was nothing more that could be done. Philip had always said he never wanted to know his prognosis and he never did.
My brave hero passed away at home on 23rd April 2015 in my arms at the age of 31 leaving behind 2 beautiful children who loved him dearly.
What happened in the days, weeks and months after are still a blur and I'm not sure how I got through it!
I began focusing on running as a way of coping and combined this with fundraising.
So in April 2019 on what will be Philip's 4th anniversary I will be running the London marathon in his memory and to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research. I want to help fund a cure for Brain cancer so no other family has to go through what we have
Brain cancer is the biggest killer in kids and adults under 40. These people have their whole life ahead of them but it gets cut short because of this horrid disease.
So please please give whatever you can to help me fund a cure for this horrendous disease.
