The McQuaid family have decided to do a sponsored walk covering a marathon distance in the month of April finishing together in Kilbroney Forest Park on the 23rd April to raise funds for the MDS Patient Support Group. A close member of our family has recently been diagnosed with MDS (Myelodysplastic syndromes). Never heard of it! well neither had we. It's a rare type of blood cancer where the bone marrow fails to produce healthy blood cells. We were shocked when we heard about the diagnosis but were able to find information about it thanks to the MDS UK Patient Support Group. We have also discovered that there is little or no research into this type of cancer and unfortunately for many there is no cure or treatment.  The MDS Support group however has recently taken on a role in commissioning research into MDS but they do not receive any grants, funding or assistance from Government or Trusts. They rely entirely on public donations. For this reason we would really love to be able to raise as much money as possible to help support their vital work.
