Story
Hello! I am Md Julhas Mondol. My story started in a slum community in Bangladesh in 2006 where kids like me didn't know what a 'dream' was. We were all expected to go to work in the local restaurant, tea stall, garments factory or as a helper on a public bus - working hard just to provide a single meal for the family.
Fortunately, my life started to change shortly after meeting a great lady - Maria Conceicao - who is the founder of the Maria Cristina Foundation. This great lady taught me what a 'Dream' is. She enhanced my life with the best gift of all: “EDUCATION”. She believes that nothing but Education can uplift a human from the darkness, can break the poverty cycle and, by which, people can improve their lifestyle.
People from my community do not think about having a Primary Education, let alone Higher Education at a University in Portugal, but I do. Because today I know what a 'Dream' is.“Dreams are not what you see in your sleep. Dreams are things that don’t let you sleep!”
In September 2020, I will be the first member of my family to do higher education. The plan: to study Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Braganca in Portugal.
After completing my degree, I will be able to work in my profession anywhere in the world. After gaining experience overseas, I will return to my country to work as a Political Leader as I know the untold sufferings of the under-privileged people.
I remember the time in my life when my parents abandoned me and made me live with my sister and her husband. I was in grade 8. They didn’t treat me well, thinking I was a burden. I ran away and slept in a railway station. I had seen how sorrowful the life can be without parents. Later on Maria had supported me with food and accommodation.
By becoming a Political Leader, it is a way for me to gain a new perspective, push myself to try something new, and make an impact on a community in need. I know I’ve made it to where I am today because of the amazing people in my life such as Maria Conceicao. Now I want to make a difference in the lives of others.
My first year of university will cost 7000 Euro. I have already collected 500 Euro by doing a part time job here.
Now, I need all of your love and support to go forward on the way to my dream. I hope you will help me to achieve my dream. I will make you proud. That's a promise.
