Story
I am running the Virgin London Marathon with my dear friend Lorraine Cuthebert on the 23rd of April 2017. Together, we are aiming to raise much needed funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
My seventeen year old son Louie who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of seven is my motivation to run the marathon. I could not have imagined at the time the massive impact this would have on Louie and our family. For all these years Louie, like millions of Type 1 diabetics, has the never ending daily challenge of managing the condition and trying to prevent serious short and long term medical issues.
Everyone who knows Louie and our family has seen how he has always dealt with his condition with dignity and without ever complaining. He has grown into a handsome, healthy and sporty young man and gets on with life in spite of everything. However, the difference a cure and improved medical management would make to his and all the other Type 1 diabetics lives is immeasurable.
JDRF is the leading Type 1 diabetic international charity, funding research to find a cure and advance the management of the condition. I am confident that with the medical research financed by JDRF, someday in the not too distant future, a cure will be found.
JDRF relies heavily on individual and private donations. Please take the time today to donate whatever you can to my just giving page and help sustain and drive the wonderful work of this organisation, not only for Louie but all other type 1 diabetics.
Thank you and lots of love,
Meena
