Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

We both have our personal reasons to support the British Heart Foundation. For Peter it was the death of his father in 2005. Peter's father - called Engel, which means Angel in Dutch - died in his sleep caused by a heart that stopped beating. A beautiful death if there is such a thing, but leaving the family behind with questions about "what if". When we married a year later, we decided to start the Engel Fund  on behalf of the BHF. We, friends and family donated money to support research into heart problems. By the start of 2013 we had raised about £9,000.

Then in May 2013 Peter's niece Ramona died. Unexpectedly, in her sleep, with no other cause then just her heart that stopped beating. A beautiful death does not apply to a 22 year old.

We decided to increase our efforts to support the BHF. We dedicated the "Engel Fund" now to Peter's father and niece. We had set the target of the Engel Fund at £26,000. 26, because it is the distance of the Marathon in miles, which we both ran in 2015. In fact, though generous donations from all of you we raised more than £40,000 in total.

Still more needs to be done: 15 January 2023 was another day of sadness. Artist, architect and friend Patrick de Louwere's heart stopped, leaving his family and friends behind.

Peter will cycle RideLondon 100 miles on the 28th of May, in memory of his Father, Ramona and Patrick. We will be very grateful for your donations: Get hearts going!
