I am planning on running the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10k Run for All on 19th June 2011 and am hoping to raise critically needed funds for the Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). My eldest daughter Kitty was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 3 days before her first birthday. Her dramatic diagnosis shocked us all and we have been learning ever since. Kitty is an amazing little girl and diabetes has not stopped her doing anything. She inspires me daily with her acceptance of needles, constant finger pricking and her strict routine. It's fair to say that she has been through much more than any 4 year old should have been through and yet she is inspiring in how she handles her condition.

Type 1 diabetes affects thousands of children and adults and is dramatically increasing in children under 5. There is some great research happening to help find a cure for diabetes but more funds are needed to make the necessary breakthrough. I would really appreciate any contribution you can make so that the future can be brighter for Kitty and all of the other kids living with this awful condition. If nothing else, think of me huffing and puffing my way around Leeds clutching at my chest. That must be worth a few quid of anyones cash!!!
