Story

Two years ago Andrew was diagnosed with an ocular melanoma,
a rare type of cancer found in the eye. He received proton therapy at
Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, the only proton therapy facility of its kind in
the UK. Last year, Andrew was diagnosed with prostate cancer and underwent a prostatectomy.

During this time, Andrew’s main focus was making sure that
he was totally clear of the prostate cancer, having regular PSA blood tests and appointments. He returned to full fitness with his love of CrossFit and mountain-biking.

Because of the way the ocular melanoma spreads and its
rarity, it went undetected and earlier this year he received the news that it had spread to his liver and lungs. Unfortunately Andrew was unable to defeat he cancer this time and passed away on the 12th July.

We are asking for donations to The Liverpool Ocular Oncology
Centre, which specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of
adult ocular tumours
. Because ocular tumours are so rare, it can
be difficult for the centre to compete with the more common cancers when applying to external charitable organisations for research grants. This is why donations make such a huge difference to the work they carry out into ocular tumours.
