Story

tl; dr I am going to fight alcoholism for TWO months to raise money for my step dads charity.

I abuse alcohol way too much. Not going to lie, doing dry January last year was DIFFICULT. Seeing as I was going through withdrawal from changing anti depressants, my first lot of final year exams at uni, and the death of my grandad. But I did it, and I raised £600 for cancer research.

This year, I want to go for TWO months without booze, raise even more, and raise it for a charity that can actually make a difference in the life of a very close family member of mine.

The charity is PID UK, and it provides help and resources for people with primary immunodeficiencies (pids). The particular type of PID my step dad has is CVID, which has been absolutely horrible to him, leaving him unable to recover from illnesses for many months, even years, and has subsequently left him unable to work.

I know giving up drink may not seem like a huge challenge, but I know I will struggle, given it has become a vice for me this year. Regardless, it would be so very hugely appreciated if even a small donation could be made towards this charity, as it makes such a big difference to those people who suffer with primary immunodeficiencies who rely on support and resources from PID UK.

Please donate thanks ❤️
Also merry Christmas xoxox

For those on Face Book that don’t know, since the age of 21 I was diagnosed with a Primary immunodeficiency. This means what immune system I have doesn’t work very well and I have to have other people’s antibodies to survive, and most of the time I have lived an active life. However this coming March will be two years since I have been very ill with a lung infection. Since that time I have been unable to work, I have to be on oxygen all of the time, I’m constantly doing battle with the Noro Virus and other stomach infections. Every day I have to do an infusion, and twice a week as today I have to do 3 infusions taking a total of 7 hours. One infusion for my antibodies and two antibiotic infusions for the mycobacterium avium infection in my chest.
Sometimes I have been scared because I’ve been unable to breathe and have had to go to A&E. I’ve spent several months in hospital not knowing what is wrong, and not knowing if I will completely recover. And I shall be admitted again to the Hospital in January to try some more treatment that should hopefully help me get better.
My step daughter Mel, last year did a dry January (Not drinking any alcohol) for a Cancer charity. This year she is doing two Months for PID UK which is a Charity set up to support people like me.
This is real hard sacrifice for Mel, especially as it’s for two Months and she really does enjoy a drink. I’m very grateful that Mel is doing this for me and other people who suffer with immunodeficiencies. As the Government doesn’t give any funding for research, fund raising and donations is the only way that any research is possible in helping people with a Primary immunodeficiency.
If you would like to sponsor Mel, please follow the link below to her Just Giving Page. Please read her story and I think there is also a link to get to the PID web site so you can see what they do.
Thank you for reading this post.
