In memory of Mason & Eden Ross Kane

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Saturday 13th Sep 2014 my partner Louise and I lost our twins Mason and Eden. They were 23 weeks old. We can honestly say this was the worst day of our lives. Having only gone into hospital for what I thought was a check-up for mild cramps I was then rushed down to the Labour Suite as I was actually in pre-term labour. At this stage of the pregnancy there isn't anything that could be done to stop it, labour and giving birth was inevitable. We were advised at this point that neither of our babies would survive.
Initially we were put in a side room on the maternity ward and spent hours listening to all the beautiful babies crying through the night. We were advised of a room which was soon to become available called the TULIP suite. This is a large pleasantly decorated room, en-suite, with kitchen facilities and a double sofa bed. No limit or time restrictions are made on family members being allowed in. Toiletries are also provided for those who have been unexpectedly admitted. The same midwives stayed with us during and actually beyond their shifts and their care, compassion and support exceptional. We were able to spend the whole day with Mason and Eden. Our babies were also well looked after, dressed, wrapped in beautiful knitted blankets and each given their own little teddy. The hospital minister attended and gave Mason and Eden a little naming ceremony which was lovely. At no point were we asked to leave and could have stayed longer if we wished.
The charity SANDS (Stillborn and Neonatal Death Society) provided us with a Memory box with photos, hand/footprints and many other invaluable items.
In the room, there are acknowledgement books with stories from other parents who have suffered this great loss. Looking back at the dates of these it's shockingly evident how often this tragedy happens.
There is only 1 TULIP Suite. There should be more facilities available in Ninewells Hospital for parents going through a situation as heart-breaking as this. We can truly both now appreciate the difference these little things made to us and our families. We can't be more grateful for being fortunate enough to have benefitted from the use of the TULIP room. As far as we're aware most of the funding for the TULIP suite comes from SANDS. We would like to repay our gratitude by raising some money so there can be more facilities like this.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story.
