Lausanne Marathon · 25 October 2009

Since 1998 Cecily's Fund has transformed the lives of thousands of the most vulnerable children in Zambia by enabling them to go to school. Education gives them a ladder out of the destitution to which they are otherwise condemned. Tragically Cecily died there in her gap year. This is her legacy.

Story

On 25 October I will run 21km in the Lausanne Marathon to raise money for Cecily's Fund, educating Zambian children orphaned by AIDS.

Cecily's Fund is very personal to us.  You'll see on the website cecilysfund.org that it was established by the British Ambassador to Switzerland and his wife following the death of their 19-year old daughter Cecily while working with children orphaned by AIDS in Zambia.  Our children traveled to Zambia with Cecily's Fund and met some of the 7000 children benefiting from the Fund's activities. They were moved by the children's spirit in the face of hardship and hunger.

Most importantly, the money you donate goes to these needy children without a lot of overhead. Just £25 pays to put a primary school child through school for a year, and £50 pays  for a secondary school student. The total cost of a child's education right through school is around £450. Education offers a window of hope unlike any other for escaping the grip of HIV/AIDS.

My employer,  Signet Research & Advisory will match your donation,  doubling the amount you give.  Donating through Justgiving is easy and totally secure.
Please sponsor me now and give more children the chance of an education.

Warmest wishes,
Missy
