Pete was a handsome, sensitive and very brave man. He had such a deep understanding of everything; so much care within his heart especially for all those in need. He was a loving and wonderful person.
Year - 2012 ,there was no wedding suit, or white dress. There was no vicar, or wedding cake. Instead we had a ceremony in the Royal Free Hospital with very close family and friends. Pete’s health was very poor. He was in pain constantly, but never complained. He had cancer.
Cancer is like a dark cloud that you would never expect to enter your life.
Instead of a honeymoon we started a fight, a real fight for his health with diets and new trial drugs.
After a very scary time, we were back in our family home. Pete was recovering.
My husband had such a sweet tooth. He enjoyed eating all of my experimental cakes. And more often than not, in the evenings like an old sweet couple we would be sitting with our cups of hot tea dreaming about owing a little café of our own. This is where he would play his favourite tunes and share food with family and friends. It is how we dreamed of growing old together.
This is the reason that I decided to do the Bake & Donate challenge for three months. Every week I will bake a cake with my little helper and bring it to NLH so that everyone can enjoy and dream about the wonderful days ahead where we will all be safe.
Unfortunately, mine and Pete’s dreams did not come true. After so many battles, my loving husband left this world for another in 2012. I was there holding his hand and gave him my last kiss. He was an incredible fighter. I was there with him the entire time. Everything felt like a blur and unreal.
My thoughts are with all people who have lost loved ones, for those people who could not say goodbye and be there because of this terrible pandemic.
NLH did help me after I lost my husband. They helped me through my first steps of grief with a handful of support and understanding in the grieving process, which I will always remember.
Please donate and help me to raise money for this charity in memory of a wonderful person, Pete Mellows.
Thank you.
