London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 22nd April I will be running/walking/crawling (most importantly-finishing!!) the London Marathon in honour of my friend Katie and to raise £1500 for the Berkshire MS Society.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a long-term, chronic condition where the neurones in the brain lose their myelin coating. This causes a range of physical and mental symptoms (such as muscle weakness, blindness, pain and fatigue) and depending on how the disease progresses these either come and go in stages or build up over time.
On average, people with MS live 5-10 years less than the general population and there is no known cure; you can be diagnosed at any age so for many people they simply have to live with it as best they can.
I've watched a good friend get diagnosed with progressive MS and watching her try to adjust over the last few years has been incredibly frustrating. It's been very difficult not being able to help as it takes her independence and the things she loves away from her (like driving, tending to her allotment or baking for her family).
Places like the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre can provide support, treatments and a sense of not being alone which is so important.
Any money you can spare will be so gratefully received by this local charity!
