Story
This summer, we will be teaching in a rural school in the Helambu valley, Nepal, was heavily struck by the 2015 earthquake. The school is extremely basic, receiving little or no government funding, and on top of this, the earthquake destroyed many school buildings. We will be volunteering for 4 weeks and will be bringing a new teaching style to the school which teachers can adopt. This has been shown to boost pupil’s interest and attendance. We will also be working with the teachers to improve their English and if applicable, IT skills.
The Charity that we’ll be working with is a local NGO called HELP (Helambu Education and Livelihood Project - www.help-nepal.org). They work with approximately 90 schools in outlying villages, helping 10,000 children. HELP works to improve the standard of education in these schools through the running of various community led projects which, amongst other things, includes providing school supplies, developing infrastructure and the international volunteering programme which we ourselves will be taking part in.
Not a penny of the money raised will be spent on personal/travel expenses or charity admin costs. 100% of the money raised will go directly to the local school we will be working with.
We believe that this is a very honest, direct way of making a big impact on the pupil’s lives and we hope that you can share our vision and provide your support.
