Mia Beechey's 30-Day Social Media Fast

Mia Beechey's 30-Day Social Media Fast · 10 October 2018
Dear friends, thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. My name is Mia, I am 15 years old and I'm at school in central London. I am doing a “30 Day Social Media Fast” to raise funds for the Orchid Project, a small London-based charity that is fighting to end Female Genital Mutilation.
My challenge involves abstaining from all social media platforms and channels – such as Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and You Tube – for 30 days and deleting the apps from my phone.
Female Genital Mutilation is one of the most horrific forms of violence against women and every year 3.6 million girls are at risk – including hundreds of girls in the UK. It involves the partial or total removal of the female genitalia and it is usually carried out on girls between the ages of one and 15.
FGM is illegal, it is unnecessary, and it has serious consequences for the sexual, reproductive and mental health of girls and women. Thank you so much for supporting me to help raise funds for the Orchid Project, so they can carry on their amazing work protecting girls who are at risk from FGM.
