Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my just giving page.
I am running this year’s London Marathon 13 April on behalf of British Blind Sport.
After having to pull out of last year’s race due to injury, I have used the extra few months to concentrate on my recovery and have now commenced training in earnest which is progressing well and am on track to complete my target distances. For those of you who live in Ware will see me in my lycra most nights of the working week, not a pretty sight.
Why did I choose to run in aid of British Blind Sport, well here are a few facts that made me realise how much I take for granted and as someone who has had immense pleasure from sport it made me realise what a fantastic job they are doing in supporting the visually impaired, and how much more they could do with a little more support:-
v There are almost 2 million people in the UK living with sight loss
v There are an estimated 25,000 blind and partially sighted children in Britain
v Nearly half the blind and partially sighted people feel cut off from the people and things around them
British Blind Sport, help blind and partially sighted people get active and play sport which can help enhance their lives, by improving their health and increasing their social interaction. They support the education of teachers to ensure that no child with visual impairment is denied the opportunity to play and they provide advice to clubs and coaches to enable more people with visual impairments to participate in sport.
My fund raising target is £2000, and to give you an idea of what your sponsorship could actually buy:-
v £15 pays for a goalball development ball which could be used to introduce the stars of the future to the sport of goalball
v £28 would buy an audible football
v £60 could buy a set of simulation spectacles which can be used in school demonstrations to help children understand the difficulties of various sight conditions
v £500 could cover the cost of a Visually Impaired
tenpin bowling introduction day
v £1,000 could equip and enable a Sports Development Officer to run school training sessions to help staff and students integrate Visually Impaired students in all their activities
I am sure you will agree that this is a very worthwhile cause and give as generously as you can.
Thank you for your time, your generosity and your support.
Mike
