Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For a number of years I have supported Guide Dogs. Personally of the many disabilities that people suffer from I think I would find blindness the hardest if not impossible to cope with. All disabilities are difficult and I would not want to suffer from any, but to be blind having had the gift of sight would for me be the worst.

My friend Kevin Miller is raising funds again this year for Cystic Fibrosis from which he lost two brothers. We are both planning on (body willing) to complete a year of activities starting with the London2Brighton 2015 Challenge on 23rd/24th May and finishing with the London2Brighton 2016 challenge on the same bank holiday weekend. Kevin has a Just Giving Page  if you would like to donate to his charity

For my part I will be looking to raise as much as possible towards providing a guide dog. It costs Guide Dogs around £50,000 to support a guide dog from birth to retirement.

  • Cost to breed and care for a new born guide dog puppy - £3,100
  • Cost to see a potential guide dog through puppy walking - £5,100
  • Cost to provide a guide dog with basic early stage training with one of our Guide Dog Trainers - £13,900
  • Cost to take a guide dog through advanced training with a Guide Dog Mobility Instructor - £10,100
  • Cost to provide partnership training for a guide dog with their new owner - £3,300
  • Cost to provide ongoing support to a working guide dog and their owner - £12,800

So my first target will be £3100 and I would ask for your support towards this target. Every little helps if 3100 people all donate a £1 WE will reach the first target. Just take one minute to imagine what it would be like to be blind stand up and start to walk (please be careful). blind people have to live with that experience everyday. by making a donation you could be giving someone the gift of independence and freedom. We may not be able to bring back that persons sight but we can do the next best thing.

This first event is less than 6 weeks away and I have done one 10k training run so this is going to make it even more of a challenge!

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
