I was diagnosed last year with chronic lymphatic leukaemia and am under the care of Dr Dearden at the Royal Marsden. 
At the moment I remain fully well but in time will need chemotherapy. While I am well I was keen to row around the Venetian lagoon with friends from the London Rowing Club and raise money for Dr Dearden's research. Any money donated through this site will reach the Royal Marsden and then be earmarked for her work. 
The Vogalonga is an extraordinary Venetian event with a forty year history. It originated as a protest against the  increasing number of power boats whose wake can damage the ancient buildings.  Local boat owners and many foreign rowers and paddlers take part in a 33 kilometre race with about 1500 entrants ending down the Grand Canal. It is a water based marathon for which I have already started training on the Thames. The event this year takes place on Sunday 24th May.
