Well I am in training for The BUPA Great North Run in September 2011. I have been given the chance to run for Age (Concern) UK, and would like to raise as much money as possible.

The reason I am running for Age UK is largely due to wanting to assist Older People as much as I can, and this charity does many things for people.

I have been a Social Worker around 20yrs or more, I also did a stint as a volunteer for Newcastle Upon Tyne Age Concern prior to starting my career in Social Work, working on the transport buses, and in a day centre. Newcastle Upon Tyne is also the home of The BUPA Great North Run.

I work with an Older People Team based at Leigh Infirmary, covering the Royal Bolton Hospital for Wigan Council, facilitating discharges for Wigan residents. I assist in Promoting Independence and do so with a passion, however, sadly some people do lose it in the short term and even more sadly some in the long term. If Local Authority budgets are cut even more, then Age UK may be able to offer the chance to promote Independence, and give advice and guidance, however, this needs funding.

Lets face it folks, the one thing we do every day is get older. This Charity is for all people across all of society,so please dig deep and donate now, however, large or small.
