Bupa Great Manchester Run 2011 · 15 May 2011 ·

Amy & Friends provide support for the health and well being of sufferers of Cockayne Syndrome and their families and carers. We provide an annual members retreat where families spend time in each other's company and meet leading doctors and researchers. We also provide a family support worker.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Sunday 15th of May 2011 I took part in the Great Manchester Run (2011), finishing the course in a time of 48 minutes and 44 seconds. As a result of this all monies raised will be donated to a well deserved cause, "Amy and Friends". Amy and Friends was formed to facilitate the support of children and families suffering from Cockayne Syndrome (CS) in the UK.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Cockayne Syndrome – where shall we start .... CS is a premature ageing disorder that leads to a shortened life expectancy.  There are varying degrees of this syndrome and there are types I, II and III.

Having experienced the effects of Cockayne Syndrome within my own extended family I felt it extremely fitting to dedicate my little cousin Zac Edwards who suffers from Cockayne Syndrome.
