Story

LOVE RUN 10K RUN - 13TH February 2010 - The Heart is a muscle too!!

Hi - Thank you for visiting my fund-raising page.  As you know the charity "Action Duchenne" that I am raising money for is a charity very close to my heart as my youngest son, Daniel suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. DMD is a muscle wasting condition which affects mainly boys.  The body does not produce a protein which is needed to keep muscles healthy.  Without this protein, muscles become weaker over time until the boys are completely paralysed and unable to do anything for themselves.  Daniel is 10 now and is finding it increasingly hard to walk and do simple things like picking items up from the floor.  Most of the boys which suffer from the condition will be in a wheelchair between the ages of 9-12 and unfortunately life expectancy is shortened to late-teens or early twenties as other complications intervene.

It is a very cruel condition as Dan has had the ability to walk and then slowly the gift is taken away from him as well as the ability to do most other things.  On the plus side though, Daniel has been part of a pioneering new treatment being trialled at Great Ormond Street Hospital this year and so far, the results are looking promising.

But, more money is still needed to help the vital research carry on until there is hope for all of the boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.   Lets be a part of history and find a cure for this terrible disorder.  If you would like some more information please visit www.actionduchenne.org
