My Story

When I hit 60, I decided I needed to try and do something to challenge myself.

As some of you may, or may not know, I lived with mental health for a number of years due to personal and work related stress, and as a result I had to retire on Ill health. At the time there was no help available.

Recently I was told about Dance Floor Heroes, and their amazing charity Tia’s Crown, which helps people with mental health based on dance through 'Therapy In Action’. I only wish this wonderful charity was around when I became Ill.

I decided to embark on a new challenge and applied to Dance Floor Heroes - it was a long process. Starting with getting through to the heats, which were held all over the country; Blackpool, Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, and Hampshire. I am so amazed to say that I have made it through to the official Dance Floor Heroes Final 12! This is certainly going to be a huge personal journey for me, but for a wonderful cause.

The final will involve an evening of non-stop entertainment to raise awareness for mental and physical health and fundraise for Tia’s Crown. The show will take place on Friday 24th February 2023 at the Empress Ballroom, Winter Gardens in Blackpool. My professional dance partner (Will Blythe) will certainly have his work cut out, teaching me and trying to make me in to an elegant dancer, within such a short time scale!

The show has already signed up a fabulous team of presenters and singers, as well as pro champion Flavia who you may know from Strictly Come Dancing, and I can’t wait to find out who the all star panel of judges are going to be.

I am aiming to do a sponsored ‘from couch to 5k run’, but as I haven’t done any running since being at school - it will be quite a challenge, to say the least!

If you would like to support me in any small way, it would be much appreciated and mean that the charity can continue to support people with mental and physical health issues by providing free dance sessions, throughout the country.
