Help support the Teenage Cancer Trust
Ok, so the concept is simple. Lug your bones across 26.4 miles all in the aid of worthwhile charity. No problem......... Sorry??? How many miles did you say? *cough, cough*
Well if I'm going to take part in such a selfless act, good cause or not, it would seem only fair to get a little help from my friends, no?. A problem shared is a problem halved after all, and that's especially true when we talk about distance.
However, all of a sudden rumours surfaced of another well-kent group keen to steal the glory, sorry, get involved, and suddenly a competitive edge emerged. Instead of a jolly jaunt around the capital's historic streets, enjoying the smiling faces of the watching public, experiencing the camaraderie of our fellow runners, pushing us on, helping us to succeed, we now have a titanic struggle between two highly motivated groups of athletes. A bitter face-off between two classic adversaries, like Coe versus Ovett, Terry versus Bridge, Middle Earth against Mordor...
Harsh? Maybe, but there in is the obvious benefit in setting up & editing the web page! (ho hum)
So, the race is on... featuring a spot of sibling rivalry, some sibling-in-law rivalry and a fair amount of war of the sexes.
"The Goodies", an unofficial name that will no doubt be subject to protest by the "Baddies" the moment this page is published, sees a team of Michelle Reglinski, husband Stephen, Denise Newlove and "Fast Feet" Fiona Metcalfe challenge "The Baddies", featuring Michelle's baby brother Stephen Glencorse, plus Kenny Grinly, Chris Smith and Sean Kelly around the 26 mile Edinburgh Marathon course. The fastest cumulative time wins - dead simple!
Help support your favourites by donating what you can in support of our worthy chosen charity - The Teenage Cancer Trust - one of the few things that both teams can agree upon!
As well as driving competitive spirit, you will also be making a contribution to a wonderful cause.
Cancer affects the lives of many of us and we are all too familiar with the devastating effects that this disease has on individuals and families. After a recent personal experience of cancer at a fairly young age I feel more inspired than ever to help other young people who are fighting with this illness every day. Cancer at any age is challenging but when teenagers and young adults are diagnosed with cancer there are other issues to consider - not being able to keep up with education and studies, future difficulties in getting approved for a mortgage, astronomical costs of travel insurance, fertility issues and being treated in inadequate facilities, which further adds to the feelings of isolation. We all remember being teenagers, or perhaps we have teenage children, and understand how challenging a period that this is anyway without the added weight of illness.
The Teenage Cancer trust recognises this and provides practical and specialist care to young adults confronting cancer.
So please dig deep and help the Teenage Cancer trust to help teenagers and their families. All contributions go towards helping the charity provide existing services and facilities as well as building new units within Scotland, giving teenagers the best chance of a positive outcome. Sky has also agreed to match a proportion of what we manage to raise here.
Many thanks
Michelle (& all the crew)
