Scottish Half 2017 · 24 September 2017 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Here we are again! After a 2 year hiatus, I am back in the game! In September 2017, I will be running the Scottish Half Marathon in aid of Edinburgh's Children's hospital charity.
28 years ago, I was rushed to this hospital following my birth at Forth Parks, Kirkcaldy. Of course, I don't remember this but my parents have told me many a time of how I was blue lighted across the bridge with my dad following behind.
I was born with esophageal atresia (EA), a rare birth defect. My esophagus didn't go to the right place, and had I had milk by mouth, it would have essentially drowned me. My mum didn't meet me for a few days after the birth as she was quite unwell too.
I then had surgery where they corrected the defect and I was in and out of hospital until I was about 8. I still sometimes have issues with swallowing food, especially if I'm hank marvin!
Thanks to the wonderful people at Edinburgh Sick Kids, I have two beautiful children and I share my life with the most amazing man I've ever known.
Hospitals aren't really described as being fun places to be, but raising money for ECHC will help to fund clowndoctors, art and musical therapies, 3d printing pens for occupational therapies, beds for parents to stay with their sick children and essentially to make the hospital a less frightening place for children to be.
