Hi all.

I retire after 30 years as a police officer on July 12th this year. The majority of my service has been as a detective engaged in specialist roles. During this time I have worked with and sadly lost some great friends in the line of duty. They gave their lives to protect the public, thats YOU and your FAMILY.

Sadly every loss has a devastating effect on loved ones left behind. There are so many worthy charities to fund raise for but this one is special to me, as on any other day that person could have been and maybe should have been me.

I have been training towards THE HALF IRON MAN TRIATHLON  event for 5 months, averaging 12-14 hours per week and have 2 months intensive training left to go. Those who know me will tell you I could only just manage to stay afloat in water 5 months ago let alone swim !

So you know what this event consists of ....

1. 2km swim in the Thames

2. 86km road bike

3. 21km road run

Whilst not aiming at any particular completion time I estimate to be flat out for about 7 plus hours....IN JULY !!!.

As part of my training I am competing in a number of sprint and olympic distance triathlons, half marathons, running and bike races. Trying to complete all these whilst working is tough and I am grateful to loved ones, friends and colleagues who have helped and supported me so much.

I have managed to break bones, tear muscles, twist joints and vomit more time than care to recall. I have fallen off by bike, swallowed gallons of slimey water and understood the meaning of "joggers nipple". At my tender age of 48 I have had many moments of doubt but the thought of being able to give a little back has kept me going.

Your donations will help the children of Police Officers killed in the line of duty to come to terms and recover from their tragic loss.
