Update
We did it……………………..yes, all 10 miles, yes, walking………….no buses, tubes, trains or superpowers! Although Paul was close to ‘breaking’ as we walked past Charing Cross station with around 4 miles still to go!
It was as a really good evening and there was great excitement before the walk had even started, the four of us went to have our photo taken underneath the start post, and when we got there Matt Dawson was there, so Cathy and I immediately ditched Rob and Paul for a hug with the sports star instead! Luckily they forgave us for our shallowness and we had a group photo as well.
The walk was due to start at 7pm but actually started at 7.25, this meant that we had to start off fast as the event had already used up some valuable drinking time:) We managed the first mile in around 17 minutes and for subsequent miles we kept up a similar pace until after mile 5 when we slowed due to Rob and Paul (aka Incredible Hulk & Mr Fantastic) wanting to eat …….again! We picked up our pace again around mile 6 & 7 as we were keen to get to the finish and the bar. At around mile 8 we decided that a much better idea would be to stop at the local off licence and buy 4 bottles of lager to walk with, this slowed us down a little, but kept the spirits up as you can imagine our legs were all started to feel the strain by now. We had finished our drinks by mile 9 and were persuaded to take part in a team challenge even though we had not signed up to it…..we were rubbish at the challenge and only got 2 out of 10 questions right! (for those of you that are interested it was to try and guess the amount in £’s of various pieces of equipment that UNICEF buys with your sponsorship money). Anyway, after being released from our badly performed task we made it to the finish line in just under 3 hours, which is what we were hoping for. Then back to the ‘food wagon’ for a burger/hotdog and then on to the pub for a well deserved drink!
The reality is that whilst we felt really good about ourselves for doing the 10mile walk, many children in Rwanda have to walk this far every day to go to school. So please if you have not yet sponsored us please do so and help many more children in Rwanda realise their right to education.
Thank you

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We four 'superheroes' from the Sales Segment Finance Team have decided to cast aside our super powers and don our civvies to take part in "Step Into The Night" walk in aid of UNICEF to help improve school facilities in projects throughout , benefiting hundreds of children.
The walk forms part of Barclays £5m global community investment partnership with UNICEF. It is10-miles long and will start at 7pm on Friday, 4 September, in London, taking in the sights and sounds of the cities by night. As we are used to travelling by either superpower or super fast vehicle, a 10 mile walk will take us around 3 hours and will be a challenge! This is a very worthy cause, so please do sponsor us if you are able to and help motivate us to the finish line.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
